Kung Fury: The World Is Not Ready

Today the remarkable up and coming filmmaker David Sandberg and his Laser Unicorns team finally released their anticipated over the top 80’s Action homage “Kung Fury” in all of it’s crowdfunded glory. After reaching well over their projected goal and netting over $630,000, the film, which clocks in at just over a half hour, was released on YouTube. You can also find it below so stop reading this article and watch the film instead. I’ve watched it 3 times already, get ready for one hell of an amazing night.

I would like to point out that this film is akin to a magical vision becoming reality for fans, artists and labels of this small Synthwave community. This film is fun!!! and evokes an excitement and enjoyment that touches lost magic that we constantly pay tribute to and try to capture throughout this scene and its music.  Betamaxx, Highway Superstar, Lost Years and Mitch Murder are featured throughout the soundtrack and it’s so cool to have actual Synthwave artists involved in a film of this caliber.

It can’t get any better can it? Well yes it can!! Recent news from the Unicorns camp is that a full length movie is in the works with well known Hollywood producers David Katzenberg and Seth Grahame-Smith, in addition to a clothing line, graphic novel series and merchandise. Also worth noting is the waves Kung Fury made at the recent Cannes Film Festival.

Adding to the hysteria, Sandberg was actualy able to get the legend himself David Hasslehoff in on the fun. He joined forces with Synthwave master Mitch Murder for “True Survivor” a song of such epic-ness that it is almost too much to handle. Of course, much like the film it is packed with explosions, epic fight scenes displaying supreme Kung Fu abilities and of course a Lamborghini that looks like it’s on loan from The Wolf Of Wall Street. Check out the magic below. You can also purchase various items from the movie including the soundtrack on vinyl at the Kung Fury Store HERE
